Editorial Standards
How we report, edit, review, disclose, and correct.
Future Chronicle's editorial standards are published in full. They apply to every article, ranking, review, and research report on this site.
Bylines, editors, and reviewers
Every article published on Future Chronicle carries the byline of a named journalist. The name of the editor who commissioned and edited the piece is disclosed on the article page. Where the reporting touches clinical practice, the name of the clinical reviewer from our Medical Review Board is also disclosed.
Anonymous bylines are not used. Anonymous sources may be used, subject to the sourcing policy below.
Sourcing policy
Primary sources are preferred over secondary reporting. Every material claim in a Future Chronicle article should be traceable to a named source, a linked document, or an interview transcript on file.
Anonymous sourcing is permitted only when the information is materially in the public interest, cannot be obtained on the record, and the source's identity and reason for anonymity have been separately verified by the editor.
Evidence levels (healthcare)
Articles on the Healthcare & MedTech desk carry an evidence-level tag: Reporting, Analysis, Peer-reviewed evidence, or Expert opinion. The tag reflects the strongest form of evidence supporting the article's central claims.
The tag is chosen by the article's editor and reviewed by the Medical Review Board member on the piece.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it, we date the correction, and we log it permanently on /corrections. Substantive corrections are noted at the top of the article; typographical corrections are made silently. We do not un-publish articles in response to commercial or reputational pressure.
Sponsored content and commercial firewall
Sponsored content is labelled Paid Post at the top of the article, in the URL slug, and in the byline. Sponsored articles are never written by Future Chronicle newsroom staff. Our newsroom does not know the identity of a sponsor at the time of commissioning unrelated editorial coverage.
Rankings and reviews are editorially independent. Companies cannot pay to be included, ranked higher, or removed. Vendor relationships with Future Chronicle's commercial team are disclosed on the relevant ranking or review page where they exist.
No individualised medical advice
Future Chronicle covers healthcare technology, providers, and the evidence around them. We do not publish individualised medical advice or treatment recommendations. Articles that touch on clinical topics carry a footer directing readers to consult a qualified clinician.
AI use policy
AI tools may be used inside the Future Chronicle newsroom to support research, transcription, translation, and drafting. Every published word is read and edited by a named human editor. AI-generated imagery, when used, is labelled. AI is not used to generate quotations, invent sources, or fabricate data.
Ownership, funding, and independence
Future Chronicle Ltd. is an independent company registered in England and Wales. It is not owned by, nor does it hold equity in, any company it covers. Our funding sources — subscriptions, advertising, research services, and events — are described on the About page.
